The carbon tax is the first step in avoiding the risk of a catastrophe that will affect future generations. It is not a cure, but it is the absolutely necessary FIRST STEP towards a cure. (If a bus is speeding towards you, you don't magically teleport out of its path, you take the first step, and then the second and third steps etc., in order to escape)
The science is settled, anyone aho says otherwise is displaying their ignorance and/or dishonesty.
The tax is guaranteed to work...similar schemes are already working in the USA, Europe and NZ. How selfish are we that we could even consider risking the wellbeing of future generations, all for the sake of personal greed?

I wonder what the division is here between those who accept AGW is real but don't believe pricing carbon is the way to address it, and those who believe AGW is a myth?
Either way people against pricing greenhouse gas emissions stand in defiance of either consensus economic views that pricing emissions is the cheapest, most efficient way to decarbonise the economy; or stand in defiance of the consensus scientific opinion.
Under the precautionary principle, isn't action to decarbonise wise, and to do so in the most efficient manner possible?

I was born in Tasmania, and I have lived in every state of Aus. Why is it, if there is no climate change, that if I go outside with no shirt down here in tas, within 2hrs I am red raw from sunburn. But in Darwin I can go all day with no shirt on, and just get a nice brown tan. The hole in the ozone layer is close to us in Tas and not up north. So UV is way hgher down here. Is that hole natural no way CFC rember them, or is that another lie from the scientits. Climate change is a relaity, and Labour will do something to try and start to fix it. Would you change your ways, if you had to pay more if you stayed the same. Every one with a brain would. God job Labour keep it up

Was the last Ice Age ended about 10,000 years ago through the same global warming climate change? Oh yes, that was before the pyramids so it probably wasn't caused by human activity!

What a complete con job this man made climate change has become.Every single extreme weather event is blamed on climate change yet Australia has always been a land of extremes.Gillard has no other choice but to introduce this useless tax because she spent all the surplus that howard created & plunged us into more debt. The current labor party is the worst, incompeta nt government ever.

Such a bunch of cry baby sore losers you are!
There was an overwhelming mandate for action on climate change back in 2007. Remember that? When Howard lost his seat due to him being so out of touch.
You are victims in a shameless fear campaign which is a smokescreen to distract people from Abbott's real passion, WORKCHOICES.

why not start a campaign to get people to write letters for a vote of no confidence in Julia Gillard to the Governor General. Gillard is making decisions against the wishes of the people that voted her in and is out of control. Surely the Governor General has to act and dismiss her if enough letters of no confidence are recieved from Australian voters??? The Governor General has the power to fire a Prime Minister that is out of control.

I won't to send the communist carbon tax junk mail that I received last week back to juliar. Does anyone have her direct address. Whilst I'm on this topic, lets all send their communist propaganda back to them on mass so they get a clear message that we're not taking any notice of their stalinist crap!
