Australia’s actions trying to lead and save the planet against anthopogenic climate change are totally insignificant. Even if we shut Australia down tomorrow, it would make virtually no difference to the temperature of the planet.
The Gillard Government is trying to tell us China is serious about climate change and clean energy. However, with 19% of the world’s population, China consumes:
- 53% of the world’s cement
- 48% of the wold’s iron ore
- 47% of the world’s coal
and the majority of just about every major commodity.
In 2010, China produced 11 times more steel than the United States. The Gillard/Brown Government’s carbon tax will make Australia even less competitive against Chinese steel.
China currently has the world’s fastest train and the world’s largest high-speed rail network.
90% of the total global supply of rare earth elements are currently controlled by China. Read more about rare earth here: http://ngm.nationalgeographic.com/2011/06/rare-earth-elements/folger-text
In the past 15 years, China has moved from 14th place to 2nd place in the world in published scientific research articles.
China possesses the fastest supercomputer on the entire globe.
At the end of March 2011, China accumulated US$3.04 trillion in foreign currency reserves – the largest stockpile on the entire globe.
China is the number one producer in the world of wind and solar power.
While they manufacture 80% of the world’s solar panels, they install less than 5%.
A new coal-fired power station is built every week and in one year, China activates more new coal-powered electricity than Australia’s total output. Already the world’s largest carbon dioxide emitter, China’s output will rise by 70% by 2010.
So why is the Gillard/Brown Government racing like lemmings to make Australians pay a carbon tax, with the world’s highest price on carbon ? It makes you wonder who’s side this Government is on.
