One commenter states the common defense of Julia Gillard’s Carbon Lie.
TL: Gillard made Labor pledges before the election, then had to make compromises to form a coalition government, that is the nature of coalitions. So you can’t classify this as lying by any stretch.
In yesterday’s interview with The Sunday Telegraph, Gillard admits her lie from her own mouth:
After a bruising week, Ms Gillard also insisted she could have formed government after the 2010 election without Green support – which would have avoided breaking her “no carbon tax” promise.
Ms Gillard said she could have become Prime Minister by forming a deal with conservative independents Tony Crook and Bob Katter, but she chose to ally with the Greens and accept their demand for carbon pricing because she believed it was right.
“In the 17 days (after the 2010 election) I had discussions with a lot of people – with the Greens, with (Rob) Oakeshott, (Tony) Windsor, (Bob) Katter, even some discussions with (WA National Tony) Crook. I thought it was always going to be possible for us to structure arrangements so that we would get support in this parliament,” she said.
So, she voluntarily chooses the Carbon Tax with the Greens, only months after an election pledge not to introduce it? How is that not deceit. Can Gillard even keep track of what she is saying?
I challenge any Labor/Carbon Tax supporter to spin their way out of this confession that our PM is a bold faced liar and deceiver.
But the real truth is that True Believers in Labor or Green Utopia foolishly approve of deceit, lies, spin, massive waste through mal-administration and on hopelessly inefficient renewable energy programs, on the basis that it is for the greater good - i.e. social justice and green utopia. From here it is only a small step to forcibly suppress dissent and start locking up opponents… for the greater good, of course.
Thanks to Australian Climate Madness for lead on article.

The commentry is still too singular. The issue I have with the government is not just this one broken promise. It is that I do not trust Julia Gillard or thew government. The broken promise is just one more issue in a string of policy and implementation failures. How can I trust them to get a carbon tax right, by their own admission a fundamental reform, when they have been unable to get any other policy or sceme right so far?
So it is not just about the lie and the carbon tax. It is as much about our faith in them to get it right.
Given the promise before the election the only thing that can demonstrate integrity on behalf of the government in my mind is that they put their case to Australia and then take the reform to an election to let the public decide. Anything else is dishonest and frankly an abuse of power which is clearly, based upon the polls, against the will of the people.
That’s not a test for deceit, we did not giver her a majority — so her offer to the public expired.
It’s easy — I just unspun it, and voila, you are left with reality. I challenge all deniers to cope with reality in a mature way.
COMMENT: Big Ted, I may not have explained clearly:
She promises no tax “Under a government I lead” – Is she leading this government? Arguably ‘Yes’ – so, broken promise – either never intended to be kept, or broken for expediency.
Initially, Labor people suggested what you say – no majority government, so had no choice but compromise.
Firstly, she had choice #1 – form government with greens only under condition to keep her word – if they refused, no government (although they would not have refused)
choice #2 She now admits she could have formed government without the greens and without Carbon Tax, so no excuse for breaking commitment and suggests she never intended to keep promise, so = outright deception.
Here’s a mature approach to reality – The Carbon Tax will not result in reducted emissions, it is a money grab by the government to ensure they can fulfil their committment to reduce the deficit – I don’t know why they are bothered though, they don’t seem to honour any other committments. We would be better off taxing flatulent cattle – a major green house gas contributor.
Totally agreed with Chapin, this tax is not for the purposes of reducing carbon emissions…and when we look at the actual facts of climate change, this becomes even more apparent. Global warming statistics are based on scientific assumption which credits manmade CO2 as being the culprit, when science does not support it. Check out this video… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Di5FyndJbz0
…Dr. Evans was the leading terrestrial carbon modeler for the Australian Greenhouse Office, and what he has to say should be heard by every single person in this country, especially those who are still blinded by the notion that carbon taxes are going to curb global warming. This carbon tax stuff is simply socialism. let’s get serious…Australia produces like 1.5% of the total global greenhouse emission. Let’s now imagine that even if Australia shut down every single one of its industries that are supposedly doing so much damage and causing global warming, the drop in emissions would be so minor it would be barely recognised – and certainly not noticed by the average joe.
This tax is going to do NOTHING for the environment. This is all about the MONEY, under the guise of environmentalism. The Greens need to seriously grow a brain between them and actually think about this. The notion that our acceptance of the tax will encourage other countries with greater emissions to do likewise is badly thought-through. Since when does Australia have ANY clout when it comes to influencing America, China or Russia???
When the truth of this matter eventually comes to light, that the tax has done virtually nothing to curb global emission rates, and that the global warming issue is based on a faulty scientific assumption, there are gonna be a lot of red faces…Australia is going to have egg on its face for sure – taken advantage of and taxed blind by its own government.
Sure, Gillard assures us of tax cuts and the like, that this or that won’t be affected, but just WAIT. Soon enough we’re all gonna get taxed through the nose for every little thing we do. That’s the problem with minority governments, being controlled like a puppet by the Greens. Gillard has already backflipped on the carbon tax issue, she’s not gonna consider it much to add a few more taxable groups/categories to the list, or even raise the tax. Rightly, this tax should necessitate another election, rather than a forced move. Let the people vote, dammit! Gillard, you weren’t voted-in by the majority, stop screwing with our country!
People of Australia, the greatest concern regarding the implementation of the Carbon Tax is not the public deceit of Julia Gillard, regardless of whether it is morally, politically or economically justified, nor the existence of climate change, even if we were to acquiesce to the most extreme predictions advanced by contemporary alarmists. Rather, the defect is far more systemic, and strikes at the very heart of our constitutional democracy.
Climate change proponents claim, at the most abstract level, the the very issue of global warming “transcends” all other issues, whether it be human rights or the economy, and therefore such action warrants a departure from fundamental democratic principles and thus the implementation of a counter-majoritarian policy by a minority government is warranted.
Yet, that argument is inherently void – for it neglects the most elementary and vital of constitutional principles, namely that the Government in a constitutional democracy must be held accountable to the people, for it is only from the vote of the majority and the advancement of majoritarian policies insofar as they are consistent with the fundamental tenents of inalienable human rights that they may legitimately claim power. Any departure from majoritarian principles, where not required by overriding (and I say overriding in the sense of being a directly enforceable requirement, not an abstract ratification of a protocol) international law or the mandates of inherent rights, represents illegitimate Legislature and Executive action which poisons the product of any legal process (including the enactment of statute) and is only consistent with an undemocratic system of Government which has begun to decline into unrestricted tyranny.
This minority Government seeks to implement a law that the majority of Australia vehemently denies and repudiates the promises it made prior to obtaining the requisite votes to form a Government, the very source of its authority. Therefore, the legislation, which directly conflicts the basis upon which the Gillard Government was elected is an illegitimate exercise of Government power and deprives with the people of Australia of their fundamental right to, through the electoral system, contribute the governance of Australia – for without the electorate utilising its vote to hold a Government accountable, what protects Australians from the abuse of power and systematic degradation of our human rights?
Regardless of whether you believe in climate change or do not, or whether you support the Carbon or do not, if you believe in the constitutional democracy and the benefits of governmental accountability we must unite and support an election prior to the enactment of the legislation if we are not to succumb to the excesses of illegitimate power granted upon a minority Government. For, in the event of our failure to do so, we have proven the inefficacy of our democratic systems, repudiated the basis of Australian society, acceded to the excesses of Legislative power and betrayed the system which the people of Australia hold so dear – and yet, we have no-one to blame but ourselves.
I agree that this woman is utterly incompetent, has and continues to make a catastrophic mess of our once great country, Australia. She cannot be trusted, is incapable of being entrusted with power over people and finance, has had no experience managing a large business either public or private. And her grovelling reply about her being dubbed a liar over the carbon dioxide taxation rort is nothing but disgraceful. She is a proven inveterate liar – unemployable in my view. I trust when she is booted out of public office that no one will employ her! I would encourage that stance from any prospective employer in the future. She has demonstrated her incapabilities thus – A dunce, fool and clown in every way.
Yes, the grub Paul Howes can go back into the greens/labor party/turncoats tent. What a dickheaded fool that joker is. I use his newspaper articles as toilet paper.
^ Sam who posted on the 25th of July and who made the remark ‘Newspaper articles as toilet paper…’, it is fine to voice your opinion but to make inappropriate use of the word paper is most appalling. Paper is a thin material mainly used for writing upon, printing upon, drawing or for packaging. It is produced by pressing together moist fibers, typically cellulose pulp derived from wood, rags or grasses, and drying them into flexible sheets. Paper is a universal product that has changed the world and shaped society today. So in future, do not deride newspaper as something you wipe your arse/excrement on, as it offends paper-activists as myself.
Thank you.
Hiya all
welcome to the club, i think a lot of you live in philanthropic fairey land if you believe what politicns say leading up to an election.
Lets hope that tony abbot isn’t setting the standards for the oppositions of the future.
The first thing you need to do is to read a dictionary definition of the word “lie”. It demands INTENT to deceive. As there is no provable INTENT, therefore you cannot truthfully say that she lied. Nor can you truthfully claim that she deceived, because her own words that you quote are after the election, not before.
If the issue is that she claims she could have formed effective government without concessions to the Greens, then she was obviously mistaken, as their support was always necessary to get legislation through the senate, let alone the reps. You, like all your kind. make no credible case for your statement, and have no credible rebuttal of my argument. You are wrong, but incapable of seeing why.
I think you are so right about this. There is definitely a lot of deception here that needs to stop. I hope the newly elected will make a change with it. Horse rubber mats
