Gillard made Labor pledges before the election, then had to make compromises to form a coalition government, that is the nature of coalitions. So you can’t classify this as lying by any stretch.
Right, Australians aren’t stupid, like the vast quantities of difficult work done by Australian climate scientists which show that CO2 is a serious pollutant. There are decades of strong and highly critiqued science behind the choice to tax carbon, will you listen to CSIRO or to a woman shouting in a shopping mall?
I imagine that would have come as a bit of a bombshell to Julia, finding out the electorate is not stupid.
@Tom Lowe: I’ll listen to the over 30,000 climate scientists (collectively holding over 9,400 PHDs) who have each PERSONALLY signed onto the Global Warming Petition Project (Google it), going on PUBLIC RECORD to REJECT that humans are having ANY significant impact on global warming. CSIRO? Give me a break. They’re about as reliable on this issue as Garnaut! LOL!
Australians are recognising that the real issue isn’t the environment but the attack on Australia’s DEMOCRACY. This government was elected on the back of a bald faced lie to voters, taking their votes and then stabbing them in the back with the CO2 tax. It then caricatures anyone who complains about this as extremists, suppresses freedom of speech, and DENIES voters their plea for an election (even a plebicite) to decide the issue. We are feeling our freedom threatened PM Gillard / Brown and we will push for our right to a truly democratic, transparent election. What they have done will NEVER be forgotten by the electorate. That is why in the recent poll of over 40,000 people, AFTER Carbon Sunday, 82% REJECT THE TAX, REJECT this deceitful government, and REJECT the LIE of human-induced climate change – a pretense to rip off the working / middle class and hand civil liberties over to big government.
THANK GOD we have an effective Opposition vowing to take on this scam, and wipe out those politicians who have betrayed our democracy, who are doing THEIR OWN WILL and NOT that of the people they were elected to represent. This are politicians clearly looking after their own best interests and shafting voters. That is SOCIALISM.

2. high interest rates and sky-rocketing Aussie dollar (which hurt exports, tourism and business).
Government does not set interest rates & dollar is floated. But undeniably, government policies and management directly influence financial outcomes, interest rates, dollar valuation, confidence in stockmarket.
Don’t blame GFC and European debts for financial market woes, because those affect all world markets, not just Australia. In this fast moving world, GFC is old history.
Wall street has long since recovered to post-GFC highs, even while American economy is woefully sick. Why?? Because there’s a return of confidence there.
Lucky Australia has strong resource boom and conditions that are envy of the world, correct?? Yet in relative terms, Australia stockmarket is in fact the weakest in the last 2 years. It has been grossly under-performing, and going down fast when compared to the America!!

If you believe in Australian climate scientists viewed that showed that CO2 is a serious pollutant, can you provide references or quotes to who these climate scientists are?
And if you also believe that CO2 is a serious pollutant, than us Human Beings would be the biggest polluter. Approximately 7 billion of us breathe out CO2 with every puff.

So that means, us humans annually produces 2,572,657,600 metric tonnes per year.
Going by $23/tonne, it’s going to cost us $59,171,124,800. That’s $59 billion dollars per year.
And if the government has their way, they can tax you $8.701636 per year for the CO2 pollution that you or I produce per year.
Perhaps us humans are the main contributor of CO2!
