Finally, peer reviewed science which disputes climate alarm finally hits the front pages of main stream media. The climate catastrophe of inundation by rising sea levels is now dead And along with it, the whole climate scam and Carbon Taxing. To continue the faith, Alarmists now must start publicly denying that peer reviewed observational evidence is falsifying their previous peer reviewed research, which, by the way, is mostly based on computer climate modelling. Observation trumps models...always.
The Australian correctly affords front page significance to a second peer reviewed paper, disputing the Climate Alarm over projected sea level rise by IPCC, which is one of the main justifications for Julia Gillard's deceitful Carbon Tax:
The Australian: Sea-level rises are slowing, tidal gauge records show.
ONE of Australia's foremost experts on the relationship between climate change and sea levels has written a peer-reviewed paper concluding that rises in sea levels are "decelerating".
The analysis, by NSW principal coastal specialist Phil Watson, calls into question one of the key criteria for large-scale inundation around the Australian coast by 2100 -- the assumption of an accelerating rise in sea levels because of climate change.
Based on century-long tide gauge records at Fremantle, Western Australia (from 1897 to present), Auckland Harbour in New Zealand (1903 to present), Fort Denison in Sydney Harbour (1914 to present) and Pilot Station at Newcastle (1925 to present), the analysis finds there was a "consistent trend of weak deceleration" from 1940 to 2000.
Mr Watson's findings, published in the Journal of Coastal Research this year and now attracting broader attention, supports a similar analysis of long-term tide gauges in the US earlier this year. Both raise questions about the CSIRO's sea-level predictions.
Climate change researcher Howard Brady, at Macquarie University, said yesterday the recent research meant sea levels rises accepted by the CSIRO were "already dead in the water as having no sound basis in probability".
"In all cases, it is clear that sea-level rise, although occurring, has been decelerating for at least the last half of the 20th century, and so the present trend would only produce sea level rise of around 15cm for the 21st century."
Dr Brady said the divergence between the sea-level trends from models and sea-level trends from the tide gauge records was now so great "it is clear there is a serious problem with the [climate] models”. Read more…
This data supports the an earlier US study by Robert Dean and James Houston, commented on here recently.
Some interpretation of significance of the US data disputed here. It is true that it is wrong to say that sea levels have stopped rising but merely the rise has slowed down, but it is slowing down from the 3mm/y towards the natural long term 1.5mm/y, instead of the expected acceleration above 3mm/y predicted from IPCC climate models. The critique’s main arguments that “I think that most people who study global sea level rise accept that there has been an increase, or acceleration, in the rate of global sea level rise” is again that meaningless consensus argument, and ignores the actual observational data presented.
Bjorn Lomborg: Bootleggers hijack climate change debate
The environmentalists Bjorn Lomborg, my, and I suspect, the opposition leader’s role model, spells out Gillard’s lies and points out the obvious: Climate Alarm and your carbon tax money is essential for the survival a vast new subsidised alternative energy and carbon accounting industry.
Their arguments range from: “it’s got to be better to put wind turbines up” to “other countries around the world are doing it”. One cites the example of Germany, which has led the world in subsidising solar panels.
Yes, Germany has spent more than $75 billion on inefficient solar technology delivering a mere 0.1 per cent of its total energy supply. And this will postpone global warming by how much? A whole seven hours by the end of the century.
The climate-change “Baptists” provide the moral cover that politicians can use to sell regulation, along with scary stories that the media can use to attract readers or viewers.
Businesses see opportunities for taxpayer-funded subsidies, and to pass on inevitable cost growth to consumers.
Unfortunately, this convergence of interests can push us to focus on ineffective, expensive responses to climate change. Whenever opposite political forces attract, as activists and big business have in the case of global warming, there is a high risk that the public interest will be caught in the middle. Turnbull denies climate ‘Bolshevism’
Turnbull is at it again, spruiking climate alarm with straw men argument. No one called Climate Alarm ‘Bolshevism’ – just plain old socialism. Turnbull invokes Margaret Thatcher as a climate alarmist (in 1988 when she and many others indeed were) without mentioning that she later saw through the ruse and the Leftist agenda. Mrs Thatcher later became a sceptic and in her 2003 book Statecraft, devotes a whole chapter “Hot Air” to scepticism. This was noted by James Delingpole and Christopher Booker, and unwittingly confirmed by the leftist alarmist Grattan Institute, who claimed she was indeed sceptical though only because of her fear of the socialist agenda, not the science. Nevertheless, how ironic and sloppy of Turnbull, that the lady whom he invokes as an alarmist, was later more concerned about the very socialist agenda he is arguing does not exist.

Other well observed & known FACTS to consider – that need to be heard and respected – about Global (non)Warming and the Carbon Tax
Australia emits 1% of the world’s carbon dioxide.
The rest of the globe emits the other 99% of it.
We are talking about possibly reducing 5% of that 1% of the worlds carbon dioxide emissions – 99% of which we have absolutely no say over. So at best – if it works as planned – the Carbon (dioxide) tax will leave 99.95% of the C02 “problem” unaddressed.
Jim Hansen and many other Global Warming Alarmists claim the world faces dangerous catastrophic rapid warming if the level of Carbon dioxide in Parts per million (yes million!) exceeds 350 ppm.
However, Carbon dioxide levels currently are already above 390 ppm and constantly rising. They have been above 350 ppm for many decades now without any planet-wide catastrophe occurring.
Global Warming (also known as Climate Change also known as Greenhouse theory also known as this that and the other and no doubt with more renamings to come!) theory predicts that increasing levels of carbon dioxide equal rising temperatures around the globe. The more Co2 the warmer the temperatures.
However, while Co2 levels have been steadily and constantly increasing :
1934 was the hottest year in the history of the USA.
1998 was the hottest year on record. (At least according to sources that are NOT biased or disputable. Eg. Jim Hansens. Hansen is a political activist masquerading as a scientist similar applies to Tim Flannery whilst Al Gore and Ross Garnault are NOT scientists at all.)
Adelaide recently (July 2011) experienced a record breaking COLD spell and had its coldest day in many years.
This summer (Dec. 2010-2011 March) was the coolest and mildest in Adelaide that I or many others I know can ever remember having lived here most of our lives. (There is no reason to assume this is unusual or that Adelaide should be an exception to the rest of the planet climatically-speaking.)
There is still ice at the North and South poles, polar bears are actually more numerous than ever according to many studies.
Sea levels are not rapidly rising – if indeed they are rising at all. (Some Pacific islands are sinking because they are on the tops of sinking volcanoes – this is NOT the same thing as sea level rise! It is why islands turn into atolls over time.)
Hurricanes and storms have always happened. Droughts and floods have always happened. There is nothing new in Australia or anywhere else experiencing natural disasters. Note that famines have been happening in Africa for as long as humans have existed there and are recorded in the Bible.
Remember Science works NOT by popular consensus (how many people like one idea or another) but by EXAMINING the EVIDENCE.
Scientific Conclusions :
I)The Theory of Global Warming (Climate Change or whatever they’re calling it tomorrow) is falsified and NOT supported by the majority of evidence. Increasing levels of C02 do NOT appear to have any connection with global temperatures or climate.
II) A Carbon (dioxide) Tax is thus unnecessary – and would, in any case, be pointless and futile delivering NO environmental benefit for massive economic damage to our international competitiveness.
