For the life of me, I dont know what part of the reality of global warming the supporters of this tax do not understand. As I see it, this is the reality;
1: Yes, there IS global warming.
2: It is not ALL man made, there are natural events that generate far more carbon dioxide and pollutants into the atmosphere in a DAY than all the nations on earth can generate in a YEAR!
Does anyone seriously think that we should, for example, impose a tax on Iceland or Indonesia because “their” volcanos are erupting? Of course not, that would be STUPID!
3: Do some research online, and you will soon find that the real polluters are the emerging economies, in particular, China. You know, that place where we sell most of our coal and iron ore, and buy most of our consumer goods, yep, that place.
4: The reality is simply this, when Australia has a carbon tax, the developing economies will continue to pollute, and in fact, will pollute even more, because those manufacturers who are unfortunate enough to be in Australia will have to close down due to massively increased costs. Now where do you think those goods will then be made? Yep, China, probably the biggest polluter and maker of dodgy goods on the planet, so in effect, this tax will only succeed in ensuring that:
A) We pay more for EVERTHING
B) Pollution becomes WORSE
C) Our children are left with a legacy of CRAP and DESTITUTION
D) We become the laughing stock of the world, which we are rapidy becoming NOW

I suppose that you are one of these people who drive 100,000km a year in a V8, have your electric heaters running all day or a wooden fire place + burn outside lights in your garden all night long…the earth is changing and getting older every day (natural process). I fail to see how 22m people on a continent almost as big as the US which has 385m people can cause the world to end prematurely, in Australia you all live on/near coastal area which takes up a fraction of your land mass, if the carbon production calculation was based on number of people per acre over the complete land mass then we would producing very little carbon per person.
WAKE UP..this country has nothing, everything is owned by overseas investors and now your government is taking ALL your money with ever increasing taxes and rising cost of living, driving you back into recession, and killing your beef industry, this is what the greenies want, next they will be taxing you on passing wind (methane).

There are plenty of taxes in the system to reduce pollution for any government that choses to do so.
Penalise and fine polluters, but please do NOT use carbon as an excuse to employ more bean counters and yet another tax to pay for government wastage.
There is already different gst on processed food. The million times more efficient way would be to charge gst on carbon and (wrong) energy and exempt it on other goods.

Your are right. Climate change is as old as time, but Global warming is merely the CO2 emissions that we have been pumping into the atmosphere since in Industrial Revolution . So yeah, i believe that this Carbon Tax is a load of crap and that no doubt, is going to make things worse, a lot worse for todays people and my generation tomorrow.
I believe that something else can be done, something that will benefit all parties but until that person with the brilliant idea steps forward and changes Australia’s and the worlds political opinions, I’ll work on it.

Though good in theory, I am not convinced that the proposed carbon tax will in practice reduce our carbon footprint by even an ounce. It is better to produce an incentive to polluters to clean up their act, rather than a tax, which by the way each and every Australian will pay, any compensation will be temporary , the tax however increasing and ongoing. Time for an election for sure, a Tax like this should only be made from a government that has a mandate to do so, clearly not the Gillard show.

Carbon Tax is just another money grabbing scheme, we are already paying enough tax as it is, 30% income tax (on average), 10% GST, 1.5% medicare levi …….th list gos on and on, if I work a bit harder I could easily be paying 50+% tax, what the hell is government doing any tax to any corporations will and always will be passed on to consumers, which means us.

The Greens and Gillard are an incredibly dangerous combination, I believes Gillard when she said there would be no Carbon Tax but didn’t vote for her because of what happened to Rudd – boy was that a correct decision.

Its a proven fact that climate changes on its own up and down sometimes very rapidly within decades through historical ice core samples that have been tested and tested and proven this over millions of years technically we are going through an unusually calm period that’s not at all normal… its gases stuck in ice you cant refute it!!! Volcanoes put out more carbon than we have since the beginning of the industrial age…. has anyone looked to the sun?? more and more sun flares…. Big companies will buy carbon credits from smaller companies for the right to pollute !!! its a trillion dollar$ rip off and we will all pay for it … remember Y2K bug ?? at least we had a date to prove it was a sham … not so lucky with this were all being ripped off… and isn’t it odd that global temps have seemingly ceased to increase?
